This unique and exclusive batik painting on cotton is delicately hand drawn using the ‘canting’ and ‘tulis’ methods, whereby hot wax is flown decorously on the cotton cloth then vividly painted by the up coming batik artist, Khairy.
Khairy brings to you Nusantara’s most beautiful and unique cultures. The ancient Indonesian art of shadow play or “Wayang Kulit” is a unique combination of ritual, lesson, and entertainment. Wayang kulit performance of Indonesia is among the greatest story-telling traditions in the world and lies close to the heart of Javanese culture. In the old languages, the term Wayang reportedly originates from two earlier words: Waya = ancestors descending, and Ang = a symbol.
Khairy paints a picture of the shadow puppets doing a live performance. Wayang Kulit is a traditional theater art-form using puppets and shadow-play to tell the epic tales of the ancient classical Hindu legends, Mahabharata and Ramayana. The puppets are made of buffalo hide and mounted on bamboo sticks.
